Graduate Engineer — Civil

A two-year rotation through site engineering, planning, quality and commercial, with a mentor accountable for your development rather than your output.

Apply for this role Posted 7 July 2026

Why this programme exists

Roughly half our current site engineers came through it. We develop supervisors slowly on purpose — the safety record depends on people who have absorbed how we work, and that takes years rather than a training week.

That is also why we occasionally turn down projects. If we cannot staff supervision properly we decline the work, which is unpopular and is the reason the record holds.

The four rotations

Site engineering. Setting out, inspections, and the daily brief. You will be at the workface and you will be wrong in public a few times.

Planning. Look-ahead planning, constraint logs, and percent plan complete. You will learn why most three-week look-aheads are reporting rather than planning.

Quality. ITPs, hold points, NCRs and benchmark samples. This is the rotation that teaches you what “acceptable” actually means in writing.

Commercial. Measurement, valuations and how a variation is defended. Engineers who understand the commercial consequence of a decision are worth more for the rest of their careers.

What we expect

That you ask the question you think is stupid. Every rotation lead has been told that answering those is the job, and the ones who ask early progress fastest.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Rotate six months each through site engineering, planning, quality and commercial
  • Take real deliverables from week one, with review rather than supervision
  • Keep a competency log signed off at each rotation gate
  • Present one improvement proposal to the directors at the end of the programme

What we need from you

  • Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, graduated within the last two years
  • Eligible for SCE registration
  • Willing to be on site in summer, in the heat, with everyone else
  • Written and spoken English; Arabic an advantage

Helpful, not essential

  • A final-year project you can argue about for twenty minutes
  • Any site exposure at all, including unpaid summer placements
